1 Peter 1:6-7 

 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  

No one wakes up in the morning looking for trials. Perhaps the Navy SEALs, but you and me are not looking for obstacles when we get out of bed.  

But trials will come. It is not a question of if, but when God bestows a challenge upon us. These trials are not aimed to discourage us or harm us. They are given to us for growth! If a runner desires to get faster, they must push themselves beyond their comfort zone. The same is true for Christians. If we want to grow in our faith, we cannot live in our comfort zone. We must be stretched and challenged to grow in our walk with Christ.  

This is why Peter calls us to rejoice in trials: God is working in our hearts to shape and form us to be and live like Christ. Faith is strengthened not to boast or take pride in, but to give praise and honor to Jesus Christ who died for us so we can live for eternity. 

When you face a trial, small or large, do not see it as an obstacle, but as a way to grow in your faith and walk with Christ.
