Psalm 34:8–10
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.
When I was a kid, there were lots of foods I didn’t like to eat. But my Mom would always say, “How do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tried it?” But my little kid self would think, “Nice try, Mom. I’m not buying it.” I was convinced that some of those things (Brussel Sprouts) were gonna’ be the death of me. I was NOT a very adventurous eater.
Now that I’m an adult, I can see through eyes that are slightly more mature that Mom was right. We need to “taste and see” in lots of areas throughout life. The spiritual realm is one of those.
When we “taste” of relationship with God – I mean REALLY taste and not just “try Him out,” we discover that He is indeed good. He’s willing for any of us to take refuge in Him from the storms of life.
When we “fear” Him (bow our knee before HIs sovereignty and pledge allegiance to Him), He will ensure that we have no lack as we seek to do His Kingdom work (see Matthew 6:33 for Jesus’ version of this). We’ll be better provided for than any creature in the “natural world.” God will see to it.
Are you seeking THAT kind of God, or some “religified” version of God you learned along the way (yes, I did just make up that word).
Abandon your notions of God entirely. Step into discovery mode and become an adventurous “eater.” Taste and see that the Lord IS good… and so much more.
