Psalm 33:20–22

Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in You.

Most of us humans despise waiting.

Traffic lights, grocery checkouts, summertime, special occasions – they all seem to come about far… too… s-l-o-w-l-y. That’s because the thing we’re looking forward to is a thing. It’s limited in scope and satisfying power. It can only make you happy for the time and place in which both it and you exist. And once that’s gone, so is the happiness.

But when we learn (like David) to wait on God, it’s an altogether different situation. We are not waiting on a thing that can’t fulfill, we are waiting on the all-sufficient, entirely loving God who is worth the wait!

That’s when we discover just how MUCH He is our help, our shield, our gladness, our God who is most worthy of our trust, and the one who gives us every reason to hope in Him.

As you seek Him today, remember that is who He is… and that any waiting you have to do is worth it because HE is worth the wait.
