Psalm 40:16–17 

But may all who seek You rejoice and be glad in You; may those who love Your salvation say continually, “Great is (Yahweh)!” As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer;  do not delay, O my God! 

 David often makes these “may all who…” type of statements. They are hopes, aspirations, desires he has that he wants to see come about. But because David was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, we can safely assume that God intends them to be statements of reality from HIS perspective. 

So… 

Those who seek God WILL rejoice and be glad in Him. 

Why does seeking lead to rejoicing? 

Because when you realize that the one being sought (God) is the source of all life, the source of every blessing in life (James 1:17), over and over again throughout the course of your life, it dawns on you just how much treasure waits at the end of your hunt! There is nothing or no one better TO seek than God! 

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought of me. 

Like David, we can be confident that even at our lowest moments, when we feel we have nothing to offer and aren’t worth the effort, God continues to pursue US. He is our help and deliverer. 

So, seek Him, church family. Seek Him confidently.
