1 Peter 2:24

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

When you were a child, did you ever break something and then wait anxiously until your mother or father came home to confess? The guilt and the anticipation can be brutal!

Similarly, when we break God’s law, the conviction of sin can be heavy. But we don’t have to fear the punishment if we are in Christ! Jesus bore our sins, so we don’t have to. He made the ultimate sacrifice so we can be free from sin and not be anxious about the punishment from God if we are believers in Jesus Christ.

Jesus’ death paid the penalty for sin, allowing us to be free from it! Through his wounds, our relationship with God has been healed. Through the bestowing of the Holy Spirit, we can live to righteousness. We can pursue holiness because Jesus has created within us a new life.

Yes, guilt will remain when we sin, not to condemn us, but to turn our hearts and minds towards Christ, who has forever healed the wounds of sin. Conviction is a good thing, because it is the Spirit of God working to change and transform you into his likeness.

When you feel the weight of your sin, look to Christ, who is the guide and protector of your soul. Remember that he has saved you, and no fear shall be in your heart.
