1 Peter 1:13-16 

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 

One of the great things we have in Christ is our freedom from sin. We are no longer bound by sin, nor obey its commands. We are free in Christ. We have a new life! 

And yet we have the tendency to travel back to our old self.  

After leaving Egypt, when the Hebrews became distressed, they contemplated going back to Egypt. Did they forget that they were slaves in Egypt? 

They were willing to sacrifice their freedom for comfort.  

Christians are free in Christ, yet the call to live a holy life can be difficult and uncomfortable, for we are fighting against former desires. One reacts to discomfort by finding an easier course, which can lead to sin. But Christians, we are called to live a life that is holy and one that obeys the commands of God. This brings joy to God, but it also brings joy to our hearts.  

Holiness is difficult because it goes against the world we live in. However, more joy and happiness are found in God. Search your heart and see what areas in your life you embrace worldliness, and turn those areas towards holiness.
