Psalm 33:4–5 

For the word of the LORD is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD. 

I love noticing both the ways God and humans are alike, and the ways we are different. Notice here, God does three things that humans do: He speaks (word), He acts (work), and He loves. But the TYPE of words and actions and love He expresses are quite different than what happens most of the time on a human level. 

God’s word is UPRIGHT… wow, all the things that means! At the very least it’s telling us that when God speaks, we should listen! He’s never going to lead us astray and He’s not going to be mistaken about what He says. And when it comes to “His word” in scripture, we have a firm and ready guide for life and godliness. 

God’s work is DONE IN FAITHFULNESS… again, wow! There is never a time when God acts in error, when His intentions are not fulfilled, when His will is not carried out. This relates powerfully to His word because it means that if He says He will accomplish something, we can be sure that He will. We call those promises, and God is the perfect promise keeper. 

God’s love is for things that we humans sometimes (often?) have a hard time embracing; righteousness and justice. In theory, we want both of those things, but in practice, we have a hard time carrying them out. But with God, that NEVER happens. And because of that fact, “the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.” 

So… think about God in these categories as you seek Him today. He’s UPRIGHT in all He says. He’s FAITHFUL in all He does. He loves RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUSTICE. 

THAT is the God you are seeking today. Keep your eyes open and your heart sensitive as you traverse the moments… ask Him to show you how He is those things in YOUR life.
