John 15:4-5 ESV

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. 

These verses have to be some of the most hiddenly comforting verses in Scripture. 

We are nothing, and can do nothing if it were not and is not for our Savior. Right away, you may feel like asking yourself, “Well then, what is the point”?

The point is this. We do not need to try harder in order to produce fruit, but simply remain near and attached to the Father, and fruit will be produced through us because of Him. Our dependency has everything to do with us getting out of the way and choosing to surrender our life so that the true power of the gospel can work through us.

As you continue with your fast, be reminded that it is not only good, but biblical, to be dependent on the Lord. Lean into what He wants you to lay down and give to Him so that He may do something new in your life.
